This week in the beginners' class we created these background papers out of watercolor. We painted a wash of various colors and then while the wash was wet we added plastic wrap on top of the wet paint, scrunched it up, and then left it to dry. Once dry we removed the plastic wrap. We are going to write quotes on top of these backgrounds.
In the intermediate class we did a warm-up where we listened to instrumental music and painted dots of color to the music. This exercise was intended to loosen every one up, get them ready to paint and also introduce the idea of painting spots of color, which they will need to do to paint in an impressionistic style.
We focused on Monet today. I showed the class some examples of his work and also photos of his flower garden. Students then chose a photograph to paint from in an impressionist style. Although this idea was new for most of the students they did a very nice job. I will add photos soon. :o)
