Sleeping Bag Snowmen

This is a cute idea that I kind of stole from my cousin Lisa. ;o)

I needed to make some large decorations to decorate for our school carnival. I thought that this would be an easy way to make a decoration (without spending any money too!!).

  1. I stacked up several sleeping bags, placing a ball on top. I used both a soccer ball and beach balls. The beach balls worked best. I didn't inflate them entirely.
  2. I covered the sleeping bags with a white sheet, and tied a white string around the sleeping bags at various spots.
  3. I put on the scarves and hats, and taped eyes and buttons made out of cut paper.

Voila,.. instant snowmen that won't melt! :o)

Papier Mache Snowmen

Here are some papier mache snowmen that I made for a raffle at my son's school.

  1. I taped 3 balloons together with masking tape and then papier mached over the balloons, and added a base of rolled up newspaper. Then I painted them white, adding some blue shadows in the creases to make them look 3-D.
  2. After that I tore pieces of white tissue paper and used a watered down glue mixture to attach the tissue all over the snowmen. While the tissue was still wet with glue I sprinkled them with "diamond dust" glitter. I LOVE that stuff. It does look like snow. :o)
  3. After that I cut up an old sweater and used it to make the hats and scarves. I hot glued those pieces on, as well as buttons for eyes, etc.
  4. The last thing that I did was cut a whole in the bottom of the snowman, under the base,... with an Xacto knife. This left the bottom section hollow, so I filled it with some prizes (like a pinata) and then covered the whole back up with white tissue and glue. The raffle winners got to punch a hole in the tissue and get their prize,..AND keep the snowman. :o)
